On February 22, 2023, Port Washington was chosen to be the host site for the Midwest Regional Mural of the America Connects project. This project is part of the larger Global Roots project of Mural Mosaic, an organization out of Canada who set out to reconnect the world through art after the pandemic of 2020.  On April 6 of that year, the mural was installed in Port Washington, with a community celebration including a visit from Mural Mosaic lead artist Lewis Lavoie.

Inspiration

Experience the power of art and connection with Mural Mosaic's Global Roots Project. This groundbreaking initiative is bringing communities together, one painted tile, one tree, and one country at a time. Led by acclaimed artist Lewis Lavoie, we are creating stunning mural mosaics that symbolize unity and connection.

POP Mural Program Launch

The Midwest Regional Mural installation launched the three-year Paint on Port (POP) Mural Program, which went on to install 12 more murals in Port Washington in addition to this mural. Mural Mosaic also went on to install murals as part of the Global Roots project across Canada, the U.S., the UK, and Ireland.

The magic of this mural is looking at all the individual 1,500 mini murals that make up the larger image of the tree and rolling farmland. Every time you stand in front of the mural, you discover new hidden masterpieces.
